Featured Designer: Tinsel & Sawdust

Tinsel & Sawdust is an evolving collective working on good design and fabrication. Katrina Tompkins opened the studio in March 2010 and keeps the door open. They work at creating furniture, art and spaces using sustainable methods and materials. Check out their work, with images of their process (including sand-molding glass table tops!) here.

One of my favourites: a quick build with shop finds

For Edmond Place, Katrina is collaborating with Stephanie Lund and Melissa Amarelo to produce a set of 6 dining chairs for the amenity spaces. Thanks Tinsel & Sawdust!

Edmond Place Building Progress

For everyone that has been wondering how the building is going here are some pictures of Edmond Place nearing completion. Victor Willis gave me and Adam a tour of the building a few weeks ago. We were so excited to see it so close to being finished. There have been some beautiful and thoughtful details put in to the building that really impressed us. I was so happy to find out that because the facade of the building is designated ‘Heritage’ the city gave PARC more money to put in solid wood windows. The company that did the stone work around the windows and doors did an impeccable job making sure they were historically correct. They even used some of the original stones to cap the parapet walls and fashioned new ones that were slightly simpler so that the old ones stand out. Whether it was intentional or not, i can’t say but it makes for a thoughtful architectural detail that you can enjoy from roof top terrace.
