Friday marked the beginning of the PDA for 40 Oaks project, kicking off the series with a great BBQ and painting a few inaugural chairs – the first of about 30 chairs we’ll be furnishing 40 Oaks with. We ended up with the first of many chairs, each uniquely designed by members of the community, with yellow suns reigning as the popular motif. We had a great turnout and got to meet some of Regent Park’s finest. Mr. Outrageous (a well deserved nickname) entertained with his never-ending supply of jokes, we met the future push up Guinness World Record holder, had great music streaming from an open van, and devoured delicious Halal burgers and hot dogs with at least six different homemade salads. We topped it all off with a sure sign of summer: watermelon slices.
The event was put on by the Toronto Christian Resource Centre and Fusion Learning in conjunction with other community organizations such as the Regent Park Neighbourhood Initiative and Toronto Community Housing. Click on the gallery below to check out some of the action…
